How we started

THOZHAMAI – meaning Solidarity in Tamil was incepted on 23rd November 2006 as a trust under the Indian Trusts Act of 1882. A vision came true on this day when the legend of Black Theatre Artist and Social Activist (late) Com. Suresh Dharma’s dream run came into existence. It was all the hard work and efforts made in the context of Rights Based Approach and Practices in the past one decade and the need for such a resource centre especially in the state capital of Tamil Nadu, at Chennai, has got consolidated and emerged as “Solidarity for Rights” which in turn promotes Rights Based Culture at different levels of work. THOZHAMAI is now the resource centre for Human Rights Work and Human Rights is especially the rights of the Children, Youth and Women from the socially deprived communities.
